Ayurveda, the mother of all healing sciences originated in India since BC5000 . In Sanskrit Ayurveda means 'The science of Life' and it is truly holistic which means caring the body and mind as a whole.
Physical and mental constitution of an individual with the inner balance is the working strategy of Ayurveda. Ayurvedic roots are strongly connected with Indian Philosophy. Ayurveda considers man as an integral component of Mother Nature. Any change in the Mother Nature will be reflected in all living organisms. According to Ayurveda the five elements of universe (Air, Water, Earth, Fire, Space) combine in the body as three components (Doshas) known as Vata, Pitta and Kapha. These three biological humors - Doshas- relate closely to the five elements of universe and to specific functions of the body. Anatomical and physiological balance of these Doshas is required for optimal health.
Vata, which is the combination of Air and Space, controls muscles and joint movement, breathing and heart rate. Vata also controls emotions, anxiety, fear, pain and other functions of nervous system. Fire represents Pitta, which controlsthe functions of digestion and metabolism. Pitta also governs the high end emotions of anger, hate etc. Earth and water represent Kapha. The physical structure of the body and the immune system ie; the strength of the body is governed by Kapha. Emotional responses controlled by Kapha include calmness, forgiveness etc. As per Ayurvedic concepts, the balance of Vata, Pitta and Kapha makes a person healthy, if an imbalance occurs in any of the three Doshas, results in illness.
The combination of Air and Space represents vatha, which controls muscles and joint movement, breathing and heart rate. Vata also controls emotions, anxiety, fear, pain and other functions of nervous system.
